Minoan Goddess Drum
A 22-inch elk skin hand drum with a cedar frame crafted by my friend Nikiah over at Red Moon Musings and painted by me with the famous Minoan imagery of the Snake Goddess figurine and two honey bees from an excavated pendant. Painted with red acrylic and then only the painted areas were varnished for protection, leaving the rest of the hide alone. I took the photo before the varnishing so the paint is matte rather than the richer, shiny red it became after. It’s a giant good-looking drum and I’m rather proud of this collaboration.

That is beautiful.
Spectacular, I’ve not seen its like before! Your skills at painting on animal skin is second to none.Mysticly breath-taking!
Very wonderful! Like something out of my own dreams.
Ms. Lawless, you are so talented! I am always happy to look at your treats.
First of all, love the idea of this design!
I have a question about the technique used for painting; up until now all people that paint drums (that I know of) use acrylics. Now, I have painted with self-made paint, made of color pigments + egg yolk or arabic gum + water, on parchment. Do you think this is possible to do on drums, too? Do you think it would be too fragile (since this will be used for drumming), or might fixing with varnish do the job?
I hope you can tell me more, thanks in advance!
Beautiful piece! One day I would love to commission a piece from you
Very beautiful!
Your lines are so clean! Did you mask this, or did you freehand it?
What a lovely work of art. Wish I had your talent
Love the drum, is there any significance to the fact that it has ten sides?
