Owl skull and feather fetiche by Sarah Lawless

Art & Writing

I have been busy plotting and scheming in the background with my witch’s fingers in many projects – some are still secret for a while longer, but some I can now reveal. I’ve hinted here that I’ve been writing and illustrating for publication and so I have. The first is an article on the magical and ritual uses of feathers for the upcoming “Air Element” issue of Witches & Pagans Magazine (which is off to the printer shortly). You may remember the sneak peek at the illustrations for it back in December.

The second article is for the not-yet-released “Magic & Mayhem” issue of Clavicula Nox published by the dark and lovely Ixaxaar where I write of ritual intoxication, the poison path, and seership to match this issue’s theme of revealing the witch’s praxis through experiential writings. It’s a more dark and grimoiric publication and I’m very pleased to be a part of it with its delicious paper and gorgeous block prints. I gave a sneak peek of the illustrations for it back in May.

Events

Native Plant Walk (Langley, BC) – I was asked by many people this year if I’d do it, and yes I am going to! I’m going to host a native plant walk at Freyfest in August for those who want to learn how to identify local trees and plants as well as learn their traditional medicinal and magical uses. FreyFest is hosted by Heathen House, so if your magic has a heathen flavour, you’d like to learn more about heathenism, or you’d like to experience their rituals and beliefs – come join us for a three-day camping weekend of magic and mischief in the forest. More details can be found on my Events Page.

Western Gate Samhain Festival (Kelowna, BC) – A festival of workshops, rituals, and live music in a gathering dedicated to the Morrigan, the Mighty Dead, and the Ancestors from October 19-21st. I will be hosting a talk and a ritual and other guests will include author and podcaster Brendan Myers, Feri priestess Morpheus Ravenna, and musicians Amelia Hogan and Kerri Joy. The website is still under construction, so I’ll include another update when I have more info.
