Altar Candles for Pagan Gods

So a little while ago I started creating original illustrations of the most commonly worshipped Pagan deities and thought what better use for them than vigil candles! Seven-day and vigil candles are commonly used in Hoodoo, Vodou, Santeria, and Hinduism and many shops have candles available with images of these traditions lwa and deities — but I’ve never seen any for the European Pagan gods so I thought why not make some! So far I have candles available for the Greek gods Artemis, Dionysus, Gaia, and Pan as well as the Celtic gods Brighid and Cernunnos. I hope to create more in the future of more gods from these pantheons as well as other pantheons, especially the Norse.

Each candle is pure white poured into a fire and heat-proof glass jar and the original illustrations have been printed onto high quality water-proof photo paper as have the hymns and invocations to each god on the back of each candle. In the traditional use of a vigil candle the candles burn for seven days straight without being blown out; this use is usually for petitioning a deity for a spell or blessing or to honour and worship them especially during their festival. However, if you only light the candle when using your altar it can last from months to years and once burned up is easily replaced with a new pillar candle as the jar is completely reusable – this green witch is all about recycling!

If you love the illustrations themselves, they can be purchased individually as high quality art prints from my Deviant Art Print Shop.
