New House Blessing Kit

House Blessing Ritual Kit

A client requested a house blessing kit with instructions and while making one for them, I thought, hey why not make more than one as there has to be other people out there whose homes need cleansing, blessing and protecting, but who might not know how. I’ve only really seen Native American smudge kits for house blessing containing sage. As useful as sage is, it’s not very good for house cleansing and blessing rituals as the smoke from burning sage neutralizes all energy both good and bad creating a psychic “dead zone”. It is good for when you are moving into a new home or apartment and you want to erase any traces of the previous tenants, but after using sage one still needs to use another incense or smudge for blessing as well.

I prefer to use juniper or cedar smudge wands because not only do they both have a pleasant smell, but they also both exorcise, purify, and bless all with just one plant. I prefer cedar for rituals and ceremonies so my house blessing kit contains a juniper smudge wand which is well suited to being used in a home environment. The rest of the kit contains a white turkey feather for fanning the smoke (birds are believed to be the messengers of the gods), a hand dipped beeswax candle for setting the wards, a vial of a blessing water to finish the blessing, and lastly a paper talisman with an Icelandic sigil drawn with magical ink to protect your home from all evil and negativity which is to be hidden in your home to complete the protection part of the house blessing. Haven’t sold you yet? Here’s the clincher – most house blessing kits I’ve found go for 30-50 dollars – mine’s only $15.

pretty.. i use loose incense that we call Smudge, it is culinary sage, lavender and basil, although i usually add Rosemary and small red rose buds, it smells wonderful and creates a nice harmonized? energy.. White sage while not impossible to get here in NZ is very expensive..

i am tempted to hunt down some juniper and ceder and make some smudge sticks though, they sound like they would smell really nice. i might have to take my American friend cause she knows what those trees look like and they are not very common around these parts.. theheh..

Hi Polly! Good local alternatives for you would be Kauri and Cypress. Here’s a good link for identifying the different species:
