Necromancy is another kettle of fish, you must have natural ability in it or you could be harmed very badly. Natural ability as in can see and/or talk to ghosts and spirits and be able to both call and banish them.

It sounds like you come from a family of natural mediums – it is actually more common than people think. When a gift like that is hereditary, you can’t really run away from it as by having the ability alone is enough to attract all kinds of spirits and entities to you whether you like it or not. I’d recommend checking out the resources from the article to further your understanding and learn practices that can help you with your ability. It sounds like you’ve already got the hang of opening and closing gates – it should be more difficult or impossible for all of fall and winter as the boundries between worlds are supposed to be ripped apart, but doors should always be closed in the spring and summer when communing with the dead so they do not wander the earth at the improper time. Otherwise my only advice would be to make sure your house is well protected from spirits and not a haven for anything good or bad that chooses to pass through – especially when you have small children. If you haven’t already do a proper house cleansing and blessing and set up up some wards in the four corners of your home to keep ghosts out. You talk to them on your terms, not theirs. The more you learn to work with them, the easier the communication will become to the point where you may be able to hear as well as see them.
