“Banyen Books is one of North America’s most complete bookstore/web sites specializing in conscious living, personal growth, and spiritual awareness. Banyen is located in Vancouver, British Columbia and has been growing there since its birth in 1970. Banyen carries products which encourage the values of non-violence, truthfulness, love for all, meditation and spiritual awakening, earthcare and earth wisdom, and healing, holistic & visionary perspectives in arts, sciences, humanities, literature, medicine, philosophy, ecology, and dishwashing. As a bookstore seeking a balance between the ‘juicy’ experiential and the ‘dry’ scholarly, Banyen stocks the best in world spiritual, mystical, metaphysical and inspirational traditions—recognizing that seekers come in all forms and find their connections through varying metaphors, levels of depth, and practices.” ~ About Banyen
I love Banyen Books, it is the last great metaphysical book store in the lower mainland. So many others have come and gone, the good and the bad, but Banyen has always stayed strong and continued to offer an amazing diversity of spiritual books and music as well as art, ritual tools, and magical supplies. While the stock apart from the books stays on the shamanistic and Buddhist side, the books range in all genres related to spirituality, health and well-being. You can find anything from folklore, Wicca, mythology, ceremonial magic, alchemy, shamanism and so much more along with cooking, herbalism, sexuality, and children’s books.
The spiritual music collection doesn’t just stop at CD’s either, Banyen also sells drums, rattles, whistles, shakers, and other ethnic instruments. When I take the trip into Vancouver to go to Banyen I usually go to check out the books and also to pick something new from their massive incense selection. My favourites are the Japanese joss sticks and of course Nag Champa. I usually also see if there’s anything new in the even bigger tarot collection – which you’re allowed to open and touch! If you live in the lower mainland of British Columbia or are visiting, I highly recommend visiting Banyen Books. The trip might damage your pocketbook, but you won’t care… plus you’re supporting local pagan business ♥

Aaaaaaargh that bench is to die for!!!!!!!!
Ooo, looks like my kind of place, I could probably browse for hours…
I know right! The same carver did the benches at Wreck Beach, and is working on a new one, where it’s going though I don’t know yet! But I kind of want to steal one and put it on my porch!
When I go to Banyen with friends, we just acknowledge that one or more of us will get lost/distracted and will meet up with us an hour or two later at the pub across the street. I can easily spend hours in this shop!
Absolutely gorgeous ! I wish my future shop will be like that <3
