More Witchy Mail!

I was so happy when the mail man came yesterday, I actually jumped up and down and squealed a bit… probably scared the poor fellow. I received a parcel full of witchery and alchemy in the mail from the ever lovely Shivian of Potionwood. Handcrafted astrological incenses, baneful seeds and sacred herbs along with philtres of magic. I’m excited to try them out! Time to dig out the cauldron and charcoal as well! I swooned over each little glass bottle as I unwrapped them. It is good to have other sorcerors as friends! Thank you so much my witching brother! ♥

And if that parcel wasn’t wonderful enough I also received an album in the mail that made for a perfect witchy soundtrack to go along with my parcel opening! May I introduce you to The Devil Makes Three, a kick-ass indescribably fantasticly talented trio a friend recommended to me and I promply went out and purchased two of their albums. One came in the mail yesterday, a live album called “A Little Bit Faster and a Little Bit Worse” referring to how when bands play live they’re always faster and less technically perfect… but this album is perfection as the band is so amazing live! The next time they stop by Seattle I’m stepping across the border!

The Devil Makes Three’s sound is hard to explain, like old southern blue grass with ragtime, folk and old school country influences. They are a trio of acoustic prodigies, playing fast and hard causing your heart to pound fast and making you want to get up and dance. Their lyrics are dark and full of spirits, graveyards, bottles of whisky and things lost and broken. The album cover itself is so incredibly witchy, it makes me so happy! The initials of the band on the CD are actually made up of little naughty demons! My favourite songs so far from the album are “Black Irish”, “Bangor Mash”, and “St. James”. You can have a sneak listen to their songs on Myspace and also for any of their albums on Amazon. ♥
Bangor Mash
“…there’s a thousand things you’ve got to see to believe,
c’mon and lay them bones down at my feet
we’re going to look into your future see what we can see
man I say your future looks pretty damn dim
I couldn’t say if you’re goin’ to sink or swim
give me five dollars and I’ll sing you a song
tell you something you knew all along…
Yes I know we all die at the end of the road
ain’t nothing round here you can hold
When I go just take my bones,
scatter them from here back to my home…”Dynamite
“I been hearing the voices of the grave
now, every single one of them makes me their slave
pushing that music down into my veins
all that power and all that pain…”

Geez, I’m not gonna have a dollar left in my pocket if you don’t keep introducing me to great new stuff. Devil Makes 3 is just fantastic…they remind me of a band that used to play around here called Ode Hazelwood (I think that band is now defunct, though). Love that old-new-timey sound. Thanks for the tip-off!

Hehehe. Aren’t they the best?! I can’t stop listening to them over and over and my hubby isn’t even upset about hearing the same records over and over….
