Surrounded by Ogham

Apple Ogham Fews

I’ve spent the last few days slaving away over a set of apple wood ogham fews for a friend. The heirloom apple wood I cut at my parent’s farm a couple years ago, it’s been drying waiting to be brought to life, and after the extensive crafting process the branches have been turned into beautiful ogham fews for divination. After lots of sanding I carve each few with an ogham character, then sanded them again, then hand drew an illustration of each tree onto each few, then pyrographed each one, sanded them again, painted each pyrographed illustration with eco-friendly woodstains and then oiled them with boiled linseed oil. Tomorrow after the oil sets I shall rub them with beeswax to seal in the oily goodness and add some moisture so the wood doesn’t crack. Then I shall make a silk pouch for them to be carried in.

Painting the Fews

I’m also still embroidering the Ogham quilt I started exactly a year ago. How the time flies! I’m almost half done… I work on it when I find a spare moment or two – the rare moments when I watch tv with my sweetie, when I visit friends, when I ride the skytrain, when I go camping…

Hello Lavona! I found you through Etsy as well and fell in love with your ware, then found your blog and thought you even more amazing! Your black forest relics make the witch in me darkly happy ;)

I saw that you won’t built any more these wonderfull carved wood oghams. But I’m hopeful so I dare to ask if now you will accept again to do more and if I could buy you these treasures. I live in France and I really wish that one you tell … yes… If one day the miracle happens, just send me an email

Aw, thanks Faery. I probably won’t be making the sets with each tree painted on anymore as they take a week to make from start to finish and I can’t charge accordingly, but I will probably make simple carved and reddened sets.

      Blessings,
      Sarah
